PFW DIARY : RICK OWENS FALL/WINTER 2016

Paris, France

As you can tell from our social media, we made the dream trip back to Paris last week for Paris Fashion Week and we have to say, it’s been nothing short of an intense journey this season. Even though this was our second time as PFW attendees - likewise with every show invite - we are always extremely grateful to be invited. This time around though, our experience during this season’s PFW was totally different from last season’s extremely packed one. Instead of rushing from one show to another, we had more time to wander around, meet people and even enjoy a warm cup of coffee or two.

First day of PFW started off with Rick Owens, Yohji Yamamoto and Boris Bidjan Saberi. For the first stop, we hit the Rick Owens Men’s FW16 show where he presented his Urban Warriors for Fall Winter 2016 in a concrete coven setting, with some of the models stomping down the runway in outstanding makeup.

In this collection, it isn't hard to see Rick Owens’ signature dark and sinister design aesthetics. Each look bore a similar, oversized design frame with the garments draped over the models - very much akin to Russian winter coats and furs. The entire collection was presented in cargo trousers with pockets as big as panniers and alternated with shrunken, tailored jackets or boiler suits that looked paint-splattered. Describing the show, we would have to say that it was a pleasantly disturbing contrast of purity opposed by extravagant, discreet opulence - like a theatre without theatrics.
